Lessons Learned: A Contractor’s

Guide to Disaster Recovery

Preparing your business to operate no matter what requires foresight and advance actions.  It’s a process that involves rethinking and forming a Plan B when normal business operations aren’t available.  Management takes a sober look at the attendant risks of potential events, sizes the impacts and determines the steps necessary to ensure the company’s survival during the aftermath. Plans well executed could save lives, minimize the loss of assets and save or even grow the business after a disaster. During this session, the lessons learned from hundreds of disasters affecting businesses of all sizes, including MCAA members, will be presented. The fundamentals of effective programs will be discussed using actual case studies, industry guidelines and evolving public standards.

David Gallo, president and CEO of Gallo Mechanical in New Orleans, LA, will share his personal story of surviving and thriving in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. David will discuss how he recovered his family-owned business, a full-service HVAC and plumbing contractor with 253 full-time employees that was founded in 1945, through thoughtful planning.

Gerry Nolan, president and CEO of Eagle Rock Alliance, Ltd., in West Orange, NJ, has been a pioneer, strategist and senior executive in the business continuity services field for over 20 years. He has a broad base of knowledge of business processes, information technology, risk management and organizational logistics. His career traces the industry’s evolution from disaster recovery to comprehensive real-time business continuity.
