Facilities Risk Assessment

Client Need Summary:

Facilities are exposed to risks both man-made or natural, intentional or accidental, on a regular basis. These risks can be obvious or hidden. They can range from underground transportation tunnels to hazardous chemicals to bad weather to intentional acts. Identifying risks and analyzing the potential impacts in terms of life safety, cost, reputation and other factors, is a valuable if not mandatory step in establishing risk mitigation priorities and budgets.

Approach:

A risk assessment of a facility consists of the following activities:

  • A review of building(s) floor plans to identify areas where the greatest risks may be located.
  • A review with the Engineering Department. to determine risk-minimizing controls.
  • Evaluation of the adequacy and functionality of the controls.
  • Discovery of uncontrolled risks.
  • A report that includes details of the overall risk assessment and recommendations for further risk mitigation initiatives.

The Solution:

Upon completion of this facility risk assessment, a company will gain a thorough understanding of the risks and exposures to its primary production facility. Critical decisions can be made to further harden the facility, based on these recommendations. This information also can be used to evaluate acceptable geographic locations for alternate or back-up sites.
